Manzano performs well in summer league, ending with an 8-3 record

The Manzano High boys basketball team played the second half of last season without dead-eye shooting guard Paul Gabaldon, who suffered a season-ending injury one game into district play.

If a Metro Summer League victory over visiting Moriarty on June 26 was any indication, chances are the Monarchs are glad to have Gabaldon back.

Gabaldon, a sophomore-to-be, drained four three-pointers to open the second half, propelling Manzano to a sharp 52-42 come-from-behind victory in a Metro Summer League finale for both teams.

The Monarchs finished summer league with a solid 8-3 record, despite the departure of two starters from last season's promising 11-12 squad. …
