Waco police back away from calling former teammate suspect in case

WACO, Texas -- Police on Tuesday named Carlton Dotson "a person of interest," not a suspect, in the case of Baylor men's basketball player Patrick Dennehy, who dropped out of sight nearly three weeks ago.

Police spokesman Steve Anderson did not name any suspects during either of Tuesday's two news conferences, saying there are "several people of interest," including Dotson.

Anderson said there have been no arrests or arrest warrants and no body was found at the site where an informant told police it would be.

"We received information of a location north of Waco," Anderson said. "... The information was Mr. Dennehy was at that location."

Anderson said police, with the help of two FBI "cadaver dogs," searched a "roughly 50-acre area" last Friday but were not searching the area currently.

Asked if they found any evidence, Anderson declined to comment.

Dennehy's family members said they have not heard from the former University of New Mexico player since June 11. …
