Operation Runs Well on First Day

The Regional Dispatch Center in Rio Rancho looks like a control room for the Death Star, but the people working the computer terminals have a mission to help people.

The $1.6 million center opened in May taking calls for Rio Rancho fire and police. On Tuesday, the center started taking calls for Corrales emergencies. In the next month, Sandoval County emergency calls will be coming into the center.

On Tuesday, business was smooth.

"Our first call out today was a rescue call in Corrales," said Monte Roberts, the center's supervisor. "Everything is working the way it should. …
