Petroglyph Seeking Major To Go With Minor.(Final)

Twelve-year-old Amanda Posey stands at the plate, her eyes fixed on Nick D'Angelo, a coach with Petroglyph Little League's major-division all-star softball team.

"Hit a line drive -- hard," D'Angelo counsels her during batting practice at the league's fields at Mariposa Basin Park. "Don't try to kill it."

Posey, a 4-foot, 11-inch home-schooler who lives in Taylor Ranch, did what she was told. On D'Angelo's next pitch, the ball zips through the infield.

"Yeahhh, that's it," D'Angelo says. "With your speed, if they bobble it, you'll make it to first."

Posey and her teammates, many of whom were members of Petroglyph's minor-divison (ages 9-10) state-champion team last year, are readying for the start of the 2003 all-star season. …
