Space available at Santa Fe airport

SANTA FE -- A new air ambulance service that is criticized as being noisy moved one step closer last week to a new home.

The city Public Works Committee gave preliminary approval to New Mexico Life Rescue to lease 4.9 acres at the Santa Fe Municipal Airport.

The company has operated from St. Vincent Hospital on St. Michael's Drive since late May. And for nearly as long, neighbors have been complaining of noise from the Life Rescue Eurocopter Dauphin helicopter.

Life Rescue president William Ashcroft explained to city councilors that moving Life Rescue to the airport could cut flights to and from the hospital by half. …
