N.M. Hispanic Leader Skeptical

PHOENIX -- President Bush's top legal adviser told a gathering of Hispanic elected officials from around the country that Bush is committed to promoting diversity in his administration and in all walks of life.

Alberto Gonzales, Bush's general counsel, said this week's U.S. Supreme Court decision supporting affirmative action programs at universities means the Bush administration "will continue to promote diversity and opportunity."

Gonzales was among some prominent Hispanic members of the Bush White House who spoke to several hundred members of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, or NALEO, during a Friday luncheon at the group's annual conference here. …
