Security Adviser Resigning in July.(Final)

AROUND NEW MEXICO

SANTA FE -- State Homeland Security Adviser R.L. Stockard has resigned from his post.

The resignation is effective July 4.

In a seven-sentence letter to Gov. Bill Richardson, who appointed him last year, Stockard said he wants to return to private life.

Stockard is a former State Police captain and Republican state senator from Bloomfield. He didn't return phone calls seeking comment.

Richardson is in the process of appointing a successor, which could happen as early as next week. …
