$1.2 Million In Damages Awarded

Years of alleged harassment by her boss at a small state education agency led Lisa Perez so deep into depression that she became suicidal and developed post traumatic stress disorder.

A federal court jury, clearly affected by the testimony of Perez, a bookkeeper/office manager, and her co-workers at the Central Regional Educational Cooperative, awarded $1.2 million in damages this week on Perez's claims under the New Mexico Human Rights Act.

The focal point of the lawsuit was Rae Ann Ray, executive director of the CREC. The co-op provides professional speech therapists and psychologists in a pool arrangement for about a dozen small school districts, such as Moriarty and Estancia. …
