The Barelas community has regained its voice. After nearly three decades of silence, Sacred Heart Church's bell can again be heard in the Downtown neighborhood, thanks to a new tower that was dedicated on Friday.

Under a scorching late afternoon sun and before more than 300 people outside the creamed-colored stucco church, Archbishop Michael Sheehan celebrated and blessed the $200,000 renovation project, which incorporates two steel beams from the fallen World Trade Center in New York City.

Sheehan said he was dedicating the nearly five-story tower on the 100th anniversary of the church's founding and in conjunction with this weekend's annual Sacred Heart fiesta. …
