The NCAA created this college football mess, but the ACC -- by deciding to invite only Miami and Virginia Tech to join its ranks -- may have bailed out college sport's ruling body.

The problems started years ago when the NCAA, by kowtowing to the boys in blazers who run college football's bowl games, refused to set up a college football playoff system that would lead to a true national champion.

Bottom line: That's when the NCAA lost control of college football.

If you don't believe that, consider this: The eight participants in the four BCS bowl games receive $13 million each, with that money split among BCS conference teams. …
