A: The best way to get rid of tumbleweeds is to go outside right now and pull them up before they go to seed. If the plants mature much more they will be setting seed, which will then ripen after they are pulled. If you disturb the soil getting them out you will bring a number of new tumbleweed seeds to the surface of the soil. Each tumbleweed has thousands of seeds and they stay viable in the soil for as much as 20 years, so if you have tumbleweeds coming up you surely have more seeds in the soil.

If the ground where they are coming up is too hard to pull them out you can hoe them off, but again, be careful not to disturb the soil too much. …
