Dems' First Presidential Debate in N.M.(Final)

SANTA FE -- The nine Democrats who want to be president will face a New Mexico audience this fall in the first party-sanctioned debate of the 2004 Democratic presidential primary race.

Albuquerque will kick off a series of six Democratic debates Sept. 4, party officials announced Friday.

The prime-time, nationally televised primary debate is the first by presidential candidates to be held in New Mexico.

Gov. Bill Richardson and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus will host the event. It will be broadcast in English and Spanish on KNME, Channel 5, and KLUZ, Channel 41. All PBS and Univision network stations are expected to televise the debate. …
