Urgent Care Patients to Pay Higher Fee.(Final)

SANTA FE -- St. Vincent Hospital is dropping its "First Care" operation in a move that will cost some patients more but that hospital officials say will result in a better, more efficient emergency room at the hospital.

The changes are to become effective on Tuesday.

First Care provides "urgent" care services for patients with relatively minor problems not requiring full-blown emergency room services.

Six beds now dedicated to First Care will be merged into the hospital's emergency room operation. Urgent care services will be replaced with what St. Vincent is calling "Fast Track" care within the emergency department. …
