LOS ALAMOS -- She was the poster child for unchecked government spending and public employee theft. Turns out, it was a bum rap.

Lillian P. Anaya will return to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory cleared of any wrongdoing in the now-infamous attempt to purchase a Ford Mustang with a LANL purchase card, a lab official said Thursday.

Richard Marquez, LANL associate director for administration, during a conference call said Anaya, a 33-year employee, will return to the lab after 10 months on paid administrative leave. But she has been reassigned to work as a budget analyst in a move Marquez described as compassionate, not disciplinary. …
