'Vaudeville Memories' revives tradition of song, dance, comedy

No one's doing good vaudeville anymore, and that really bugs Joe Paone. The New York City native remembers the good old days, when itinerant performers crisscrossed the Eastern seaboard, serving up broad comedy, sweet harmonies and the ever-present novelty act, usually some acrobatics or juggling.

"My father used to perform at the Palace on Broadway when vaudeville was revived in the 1940s," said Paone, a longtime actor who also serves as Bernalillo County's chief deputy district attorney. "I myself performed in a variety show that traveled the Italian-American circuit up and down the East Coast."

So if anyone is perfect to correct the vaudeville deficit in Albuquerque, it's Paone. …
