Value Increases Averaging 14%

Rio Arriba County property owners still have a chance to discuss new assessments of their homes and land with county officials, even though the protest period recently ended.

Assessed property values increased by an average of 14 percent this spring, Assessor Arthur Rodarte said, as the county complied with a state law that requires assessed values be at least 85 percent of market value.

But citizens can still ask questions and point out possible discrepancies with the assessor's office, Rodarte said.

"If there was an error made on our part, we'll make the necessary correction," Rodarte said. …
