* Sen. Jeff Bingaman and Rep. Heather Wilson were making calls Wednesday night to try to bring in the U.S. Forest Service Type-1 Fire Management Team, which battles the nation's largest fires. Gov. Bill Richardson hopes the team will come and stay in Albuquerque through the Fourth of July.

* Gov. Bill Richardson and his wife drove from Santa Fe about 11 p.m. on Wednesday with a motorcade to assess the situation and planned to return to the capital early this morning.

* The Old Town Sheraton hotel was allowing evacuees to bring in pets and stay overnight. West Mesa High School was also allowing pets to come in with their owners. Pets can also be taken to Animal Services at 8920 Lomas. …
