2nd Bosque Blaze Threatens Homes, Forces Evacuations

Enormous flames loomed over the treetops north of Montano Bridge, consuming trees and brush along both sides of the Rio Grande.

Ashes and sparks flew through the air over Montano Plaza, where nearby residents had gathered to watch the advancing inferno. The raging fire jumped the ditch along the river about 10 p.m. and threatened the plaza and homes in a new subdivision behind it.

Firefighters battled the blaze from the bridge.

"At the bridge it looks like a gigantic campfire," said Lt. Lynn Reule, Albuquerque Fire Department public information officer. …
