With Old Town and the new National Hispanic Cultural Center, the city's fine museums and its many scenic attractions, Albuquerque has much to offer tourists. That's without even considering the great food and great weather.

So why don't more tourists come this way?

When it comes to the state's second biggest industry (oil and gas is first), the estimated $1.7 billion pumped into Albuquerque's economy each year from tourist-related spending could easily be bigger.

A task force created at the behest of City Councilor Greg Payne thinks that much of the problem lies with weak marketing and lax oversight at the Convention Center.

The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau Task Force came up with a list of recommendations to get a higher return of tourist dollars for the investment of lodgers tax revenue. …
