Staffing, Funding Increases Planned

Animal Services will be getting a larger staff, a spay-and-neuter program for low-income pet owners and possibly a six-day week for people to visit the kennels and cattery under the new city budget that goes into effect next month.

"The capacity in services will significantly be enhanced and improved," said Kent Newton, associate director for the Environmental Health Department, of which Animal Services is a division.

"It's been very difficult in the past year and a half with positions left vacant and operational funds frozen."
