Buckaroo Ball overflows with eye-popping outfits and auction items

When you're strolling the dusty streets of a Wild West town, rubbing elbows and leather pants and high-heeled cowboy boots with 1,100 partygoers who positively reek with Santa Fe style, it's hard to remember that the Buckaroo Ball is all about children.

In the past 10 years, the Buckaroo Ball has become the most extravagant street fest in the state. The party, held this year at the Bonanza Creek Ranch Movie Town on June 14, has evolved into a dress-up party of epic proportions -- a fantasy of rhinestones, turquoise and fringe, complete with legendary margaritas and the popping cameras of the paparazzi.

However, this sartorial sensation also has a serious side. Since 1994, the Buckaroo Ball has awarded almost $5 million in grants to programs serving at-risk children in Santa Fe County. …
