* Teams want to enjoy Hawaii while still focusing on the games

Rio Vista Football Club's Tiburonas under-13 girls soccer team is in paradise.

"They are very, very excited, especially since (the Snickers U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional is) in Hawaii," says Rio coach Matt Melancon. "And to say they're excited may be an understatement."

The Tiburonas, mostly eighth-graders-to-be, won their first State Cup title in May.

Rio Vista's initial game of the six-day competition in Honolulu is Monday.

"The girls are so excited," says Marlena Torres, whose daughter, Katrina, is a Tiburonas forward. "I think they made a pact to not sleep (Thursday night prior to their flight Friday)."

Like the other 14 state age-group champions and two wild-card teams that will represent New Mexico at the regional, the Rio Vista squad somehow must enjoy Oahu while also try to focus on soccer. …
