Jury Gets Wrongful Arrest Case.(Final)

In October 2001, Deena Tanberg went out for a few drinks with friend Valerie Ortega to unwind after a long day selling health care products at a balloon fiesta booth.

The two shot some pool, then went for a walk in Bianchetti Park near Lomas and Tramway NE about 2:30 a.m.

But the "girls night out" ended on a sour note with the arrest of Tanberg, a stay-at-home mom married to an FBI agent, and Ortega, a registered nurse.

Events surrounding their arrest fueled a civil rights lawsuit that went to a U.S. District Court jury Friday.

Tanberg said she sustained a broken arm after she was thrown on the ground during her arrest by Albuquerque Police Department officer Tom Sholtis, an off-duty patrolman who lived near the park. …
