With the PGA Club Professional Championship stealing all the headlines of late, two of the state's biggest events have taken back seats from a publicity standpoint. But both are going as strongly as ever.

Farmington's San Juan Open, traditionally featuring one of the best, if not the best, fields in New Mexico concludes Sunday. Last week, it was Socorro's Conrad Hilton Open teeing it up for the 44th time.

It was a thrilling week at the charming New Mexico Tech Golf Course, with history being made. For the first time, amateurs won the senior and open titles.

Albuquerque's Jack Slayton took the 36-hole senior crown, while Socorro's Miguel Griego won the 54-hole overall championship. …
