Some of the neighbors around St. Vincent Hospital are making some noise of their own about the noise caused by the new air ambulance operating there since late May.

William Ashcroft, president of New Mexico Life Rescue (formerly Air Life Flight), which operates the rapid-response trauma service, said he gets an average of three phone calls every flight, for two to three flights each day.

"Most say, 'I know what you're doing, but what can you do to help us?' '' he said Friday by phone.

Some threaten to throw rocks at the helicopter, a Eurocopter Dauphin, or wonder if it's hauling hospital execs around on aerial tours. One man threatened the ship with a high-powered rifle and was duly reported to Santa Fe police, Ashcroft said. …
