More changes at the Santa Fe County jail -- where a new warden has been in place since April -- are on the way, said Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano, who has taken a leading role in county oversight of the privately run jail.

The changes are slated in the wake of a scathing March report by U.S. Department of Justice investigators, who were harshly critical of jail conditions, including medical care for inmates.

The jail has been plagued by wide-ranging controversies in recent years, from alleged sexual assaults of inmates, to a heroin overdose, to criticism of its medical care to a disturbance among inmates. …
