New Mexico has fewer casinos than Las Vegas, Nev., or Atlantic City, N.J., but they're as competitive for the gaming dollar as if they were on the Vegas Strip or the Jersey shore.

In view of the competition, casinos continue to bring in new games and incentives to keep patrons interested. San Juan Pueblo's Ohkay Casino's latest offering: An all new 2-Cent Progressive Jackpot Carnival slot. And on Father's Day Felix Somar of Chama won $5,545 playing the two-penny attraction.

Ohkay offers eight in-house progressive machines, where the jackpots can grow surprisingly fast. Early in the week the casino's 5-cent Lucky Bonus Keno slot's progressive pile was up to $13,954. The heftiest pot was on the Big Dawg slot, holding a treasure chest of $22,895. …
