Sierra Club Says Farmer, City Shortages Overblown

New Mexico political leaders are reacting to the recent court ruling about water for the endangered Rio Grande silvery minnow with hysteria and misrepresentations, environmentalists said Thursday.

Claims that the ruling will mean serious water shortages for farmers and city dwellers are overstated, said Richard Barish of the Sierra Club, one of the groups that sued federal water managers over protections for the minnow and its habitat.

"This decision is going to have, in all probability, no effect on water resources this year," he said.
