Ore House Offers More Than Good Food.(Journal North)

It was a beautiful almost-summer night and we felt like doing something different. Why not play tourist? So we headed down to the Plaza and out to the Ore House balcony, one of the best places I know to sit and watch the traffic with a cold drink in hand.

The Ore House is a Santa Fe institution in a good sort of way, serving drinks and meals since 1966. From the open-air balcony, reached up a flight of stairs from street level, you can hear the motorcycles and testosterone cars -- the kind that are mostly noise and flash -- cruise along San Francisco Street and Lincoln Avenue. You can watch folks of all ages eat ice cream, sit and talk on park benches, assemble on the sidewalks or stroll from store to store, window-shopping. We saw a baby blue Thunderbird drive by and the distant beat of bongos drifted in from somewhere.

The tiled tables and live plants suspended from the upper white railing add to the attraction. …
