17-Year-Olds Can Donate Blood.(Journal North)

Las Vegas, N.M., blood drive sponsors and United Blood Services representatives are hoping to benefit from a law change today that allows 17-year-olds to donate blood without parental consent.

Advance America, a cash advance center, is sponsoring a blood drive 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. The UBS bloodmobile will be parked in the store's parking lot at 212 Mills Ave.

The law change puts New Mexico in a group of 40 other states which allow 17-year-olds -- who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health -- to donate blood without the permission of their parents. …
