Most Bad Injuries Occur After Ride

If the saying, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it," is true for most things in life, the slogan "If you ain't in the hospital, don't stop ridin' '' certainly applies to professional rodeo cowboys.

Brushing aside injuries like cattle do flies, cowboys can be a doctor's nightmare when it comes to the aches and pains of rodeo life. Nearly every one of them at this week's Rodeo de Santa Fe is suffering from some sort of injury, be it a nagging one from the distant past or a series of minor bumps and bruises incurred in recent outings.

All, it seems, have vivid stories to share about one injury or another. Everything from shattered legs to violent concussions and gnarled fingers are on the menu. …
