APS Budget Gets OK From Board.(Final)

The Albuquerque school board approved a $464.8 million operating budget Wednesday, with one member crying foul over cuts to the district-owned radio station.

The budget is a 3.6 percent increase over the current year's budget and will now give a 6 percent raise to teachers Dec. 8 -- a few weeks earlier than required by the state.

To determine funding allocations to each of the schools, the district used a new student-weighted formula based on the method used by the state Department of Education.

APS, which shifted part of its administration budget to the individual schools, also required them to create their own individual budgets this year. …
