McGREGOR RANGE -- For noise and action, the Avenger missile system puts on a pretty good show. For deploying local National Guardsmen overseas, the Avenger isn't much of a ticket.

This is the New Mexico Army Guard's situation: While its new commander, Brig. Gen. Kenny Montoya, wants his troops performing the duties they spend months and years training for, the United States hasn't had a pressing need for years to tap the anti-aircraft Avenger missile weapon.
