Tourney for Club Pros Gets Under Way Today

SANTA ANA PUEBLO -- When the going gets tough -- typically, the rough's been growing.

That's pretty much the law of the land at Twin Warriors Golf Club, where the 36th annual PGA Club Professional Championship opens today.

"It's like Vietnam out there in the rough," Pendaries head pro Larry Webb said with a laugh following Wednesday's practice round. "There could have been a battalion of Viet Kong hiding in the bottom of that stuff."

Webb, the 1983 champ, is New Mexico's only representative in the field of 156 club pros at the $400,000 tournament. At 54, he's also the oldest battling for the top prize of $53,000. …
