Theater is often the overlooked jewel, the bridesmaid of the arts in Santa Fe. But not today.

Two new and very good plays on stage in the city deserve a look. One is by a homegrown playwright and the other by a familiar playwright who has worked with the Santa Fe Shakespeare Company as a director for six years.

"King's Yellow" takes its name from a particular poison popular with regicidal plotters and was written by Craig Barnes of Arroyo Hondo and plays through June 29 at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe. "Bernice/Butterfly: A Two-part Invention," by Nagle Jackson and presented by the Santa Fe Shakespeare Company, plays through Sunday at the Armory for the Arts. …
