DNA From Vehicle Didn't Match Suspect

The Santa Fe District Attorney's Office will not retry Leroy Roybal for vehicular homicide in the October 2000 death of a retired corrections officer who was struck by a Jeep in downtown Santa Fe.

Roybal's first trial stemming from Johnny Vigil's death ended in a hung jury in December 2002.

DNA evidence taken last year from the windshield of the Jeep that struck the car being driven by Vigil, 65, early on Oct. 25, 2000, did not match Roybal's DNA.

The Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory report that eliminated Roybal as a source of that DNA was made public in July 2002. …
