Cowboys Enjoy Santa Fe Event

As the rain goes, so goes Rodeo de Santa Fe.

An event that traditionally has been held during the second week in July, the rodeo was moved to June a few years ago in hopes of beating the monsoon season.

For the most part, the strategy has worked, despite the threatening skies that greeted rodeo fans at Wednesday's opening go-around.

"I remember it being hot and dry every year in June, then the rodeo would come, and it'd start raining," recalled Rodeo de Santa Fe president David Koppa. "Now it's hot in July and raining now."

Fortunately for Koppa and the few thousand enthusiasts who attended the opening ceremonies, the afternoon showers that saturated the rodeo grounds had subsided well before the evening events got under way. …
