Wilson Plans Another Bill to Fight Spam E-Mail.(Final)

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., today will introduce a new bill aimed at cracking down on the electronic mail nuisance commonly known as "spam."

Wilson, a New Mexico Republican, has waged legislative war against spam since 1999, when she first introduced a bill to combat the problem. Her anti-spam bills have met with varying degrees of success in the House, but none has made it into law.

Wilson said she is more optimistic about her latest attempt to curtail e-mails containing pitches for pornography, get-rich-quick schemes and other unsolicited products.

"The problem just continues to grow and the pressure for a solution is also increasing," she said. …
