Rodeo Opening.(Journal North)

With the arrival of big rigs carrying everything from livestock to carnival attractions, the 54th Rodeo de Santa Fe began rising from the dust Tuesday afternoon as crews scrambled to prepare for today's opening.

Opening ceremonies are at 7:30 p.m., kicking off four days of professional rodeo action that includes nightly mutton busting events and two PRCA go-arounds Saturday.

Aside from the dozens of professional cowboys and cowgirls from the United States and Canada, participants include world champion rodeo clowns Rob Smets and Mike Matt, as well as renowned barrelman Jess Franks and Hall of Fame stock contractor Harry Vold. …
