Teen Appears In Taos Court

TAOS -- A 16-year-old accused of fatally shooting 19-year-old Albert Trujillo on June 6 in a dispute over a keg of beer pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday.

Earl Romo faces a first-degree murder charge, or in the alternative second-degree murder, in Taos District Court.

District Judge Peggy Nelson ordered Romo held on $250,000 cash bail. Nelson granted a request by Romo's lawyer, Alan Maestas, to keep Romo in the Taos County Juvenile Detention Center rather than sending him to the Santa Fe County jail, which holds many Taos prisoners.

Romo, of Ranchos de Taos, will be prosecuted as an adult in the early morning incident that occurred after a party at Trujillo's Talpa home. …
