* Dr. Argeres uses Far Eastern principle of acupuncture to help animals feel better

Dr. Susan Erika Argeres does house calls, specializing in acupuncture and massage -- for pets.

The 36-year-old Argeres, who decided at the age of 8 that she would become a veterinarian when she grew up, not only loves animals but feels most in tune with them when she does hands-on therapy.

"It helps me to share the incredible animal-human bond," she says.

Recently she sat on a rug in the home of a black Labrador, preparing to do an acupuncture session. The 11-year-old Lab has chronic arthritis and finds it hard to keep up with three younger, more agile dogs in the family.

Dr. Argeres massaged the Lab a bit before beginning the acupuncture, and then eased in each needle almost as a part of her massage strokes. …
