Middle School Adds One Class, Electives

Bernalillo Middle School students can expect new things when they return next fall.

Instead of five classes a day, they will have six, allowing them a chance to take more electives.

Principal Allan Tapia said the school has decided to return to a more traditional class schedule.

Students will have six 55-minute classes. The school has been using a block schedule, meaning students attended about two-hour periods during which they would learn two subjects from the same teacher. The first block session would be math and science, with the same teacher; then the students would move to another teacher to learn language arts and social studies. …
