Local sellers upset by vote

SANTA FE -- Two local rain barrel vendors said they will appeal the Santa Fe city decision last week to buy more than 1,000 rain barrels from a Vermont company for sale to city residents.

The City Council, after discussing local vendors' concerns, voted 4-3 in favor of spending nearly $100,000 on 1,250 75-gallon rain barrels from Home & Garden Innovations. The city plans to sell the barrels for $40 each to residents, about $35 less than their wholesale price.

Dan Raker, who runs The Rain Barrel Guy, fellow rain barrel salesman John Nash and eight other business owners opposed the plan. …
