Sandoval gets Zocalo funding.(Business Outlook)

BERNALILLO -- The federal government has kicked in $1.4 million for Sandoval County to use toward buying a compound of historic buildings on Bernalillo's main street that county officials say will house new job training and economic development programs.

The total project cost is about $2.8 million and includes purchasing the property, renovating it and then implementing the economic development programs. The cost of the site itself is $1.05 million.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration approved the grant for purchase of El Zocalo, which contains five historic buildings on 3 acres.

County Commissioner Bill Sapien, who represents Bernalillo, said the El Zocalo project will not only beautify the town's main street district but create long-term job opportunities. …
