The Fiesta Flamenca concert at Rodey Theatre Thursday evening was the closing show of the 17th Festival Flamenco Internacional. It was characterized by a strong sense of drama and theatricality. After a vibrant and rhythmically intriguing opening with the Yjastros flamenco company's "Tangos," choreographed by Joaquin Encinias, singer Rocio Bazan established the bewitching aura of dark pain and magic in her vocal solo. Bazan's voice seemed to range through all the cavities of her head with vibrating cries and wails.

Vero "La India" brought the dark, brooding mood of a "Solea" on stage. She began in silence, sitting on a chair and moving from a slowly rising arm gesture to stand and walk to center stage. …
