Louisiana Site Next to 2 Malls

A former bookstore in Uptown is going to be torn down and rebuilt as a small, upscale shopping center.

The project, called Uptown Park, will break the old Bookstar at 2201 Louisiana NE into two restaurant and four retail spaces at a cost of $2.2 million, said developer Paul Silverman of Geltmore Inc.

Geltmore has also taken over a quarter-acre city park on the north end of the property and plans to put in new landscaping and outdoor restaurant seating. The entire site is slightly more than an acre.

The project will take the existing building "down to the foundation" and is expected to be finished by October, Silverman said. …
