People traveling along Interstate 40 west from Rio Puerco to exit 108 can't help but notice three casinos, all belonging to Laguna Pueblo. One is a mini casino, the Laguna Casino at Rio Puerco. The 100-slot emporium serves as a reference point to the attention-getting construction project going on next door. That effort is the 167,000-square-foot Route 66 Casino scheduled to open in September.

The third member of Laguna's trifecta is Dancing Eagle Casino, at exit 108 about 45 minutes west of the Duke City. The Eagle, at 3, is the oldest of the pueblo's gaming endeavors but refuses to rest on a status quo: It has regularly had makeovers and some remodels. …
