NMHU Gets OK For New Watering

Three yards and a cloud of dust? Doubtful.

Thanks to a little reseeding and a smarter irrigating schedule, the grass field at New Mexico Highlands University's Perkins Stadium is well on its way to making a comeback.

Cutting a deal with the city of Las Vegas, NMHU will be allowed to divide its irrigating allotment of four hours twice a week into several smaller bursts without using additional water. The idea is to keep the field moist without flooding it.

Richard Trujillo, the utilities director for the city, said his department had to be convinced NMHU was doing all it could to properly grow new grass before it approved the idea. …
