Bookkeeping Mistake Helps Village Budget.(West Side Journal)

Confusion over a position in the Corrales Police Department may result in a lowered village deficit.

A bookkeeping error resulted in an extra position for the Corrales Police Department, raising the number of village police officers from 16 to 17 officers on paper.

Village Administrator Chris Allen said the department should only have 16 officers on the books not including officers assigned to the Region I Drug Task Force.

The error came to light at a village council meeting last week when former police chief Mike Tarter pointed out the problem.

"I had the opportunity to review the budget, but when I got to the (police personnel) section and I added up those positions," Tarter said. …
