Dispute Quelled By Salzwedel Exit

The flare-up sparked by the New Mexico Activities Association's assessment fees seemingly has been doused.

The NMAA says it doesn't expect any problems collecting the money.

The emergency fees, which range between $660 and $1,980 per school (depending on enrollment), are slated to raise more than $176,000 to temporarily bankroll the regulatory body for the state's interscholastic sports.

Deadline for payment was Friday, and while just a little more than half of the state's 152 high schools have paid thus far, the NMAA doesn't expect a problem.

NMAA executive director Dan Salzwedel declined comment for this story. …
